Bane of affiliate programs

by Kingdom Keys on 11 Nov 2011 permalink
I want to relate an experience I had with a service called NeuroLinker which appeared at face value to be a worthwhile endeavour.

Searching high and low for some clever way to improve my inbound links I decided to give it a try. Basically you carry on your site a page of "resources" links and likewise the participating members will return the compliment.

Neurolinker claim to have a unique algorithm to qualify your field of activity and endeavour to group you with other sites of similar categories. To my dismay I was bundled with ventures such as tattoo parlours, psychic readings and other dubious activities. Even though you have the freedom to veto each individual link that shows up on your resource page it was a daunting task when they number in the hundreds.

The value of an inbound link is inversely proportional to the number of links on the page so I decided to pull out and may I say to the credit of the scheme operator I got an instant refund.

The idea was a good one though but it was spoilt by a bad neighbourhood. I don't know the background. It may have been yesterday's glory but something happened and all the good guys left leaving newcomers to contend with second class urls.

This was impressed on me by the fact that the copyright notice on the portal page was out of date and also one of the testimonial websites featured no longer existed. These are obvious pointers that when things are not properly updated something is amiss.

Another discovery was that you had to pay through Clickbank which was an eye-opener to me. This is a place where you congregate with scores of enterprising people peddling all sorts of ebooks you can download online. There is even a guy selling you a wonderful tool to uncover niche markets in seldom used keywords so that you can get a commission on driving traffic to some other site.

That was another reason for my flight for cover. I didn't want to be seen in that sort of company let alone have that sort of offerings advertised on my site. If those guys have such a brilliant product let them have the skills to market it also.

In the meantime you can get a link by adding your url here.
